Before MRE’s different rations were also used in Military forces for food preservation. With the modifications to previous rations MRE’s were developed. XMRE meals providing quality MRE’s to the nations.
MCI ration: MCI ration is meal, combat, individual ration, which is wet canned ration used in military force to supply food for soldiers. It was used in between 1958 and 1980. By adding some more menu items to the existing canned c-ration, MCI was come in use. MCI contains three small cans and one large can and all these cans were placed in a cardboard. MCI contains mainly three units namely Meat unit, Bread unit and Dessert unit. The Meat unit contains all non vegetarian items, which are prepared in different methods. Some of the items are like chicken, eggs, fish, beef and pork items. The bread unit contains items like chocolates, cookies, sandwiches, biscuits, varieties of jam and other baked items. The dessert unit contains fruits, cakes and wheat bread. Along with these an accessory packet containing salt, sugar, pepper, chewing gums and toilet paper. The weight of these packaging ranges from 10 to 13 kg.
LRP ration: Long range patrol was replaced the heavy MCI cans. Because of the high amounts of weight MCI are not preferred for long range patrolling. LRP ration items come in tin foiled packets and wrapped with an olive cloth. An improved LRP ration came in use between 1994 and 2001 as LRP-1. It contains eight different menus with different items. Like MCI it contains Entrees, desserts and beverages.
Meal ready to eat: MRE provides on the go meals to the soldiers. With some modifications in LRP ration MRE’s were introduced. MRE providing required calories with light weight packing. Each meal provides 1200 calories. MRE meals are prepared based on the military recommendations like the calories, proteins, minerals and vitamins contents that should required for an individual.
MRE’s are pre cooked and self contained foods. MRE’s have a shelf life of three years. Once opened they has to be consumed within days. The MRE’s can be purchased from XMRE meals. An MRE packet contain Main food item like meat entrees, side dish, desserts, candies, powdered beverages, spoons to eat and flameless heater. Along with them an accessory pack contains salt, pepper, sugar, moist free match box, toilet papers, chewing gums and dried coffee powder. MRE pouch is made up of thick aluminum foil and plastic bags which are light weight. The MRE pouch is filled with food, sealed and food contents are sterilized and the date of packing printed on the pack. These MRE’s also available to normal people at the time of disasters.
